What are “sponsored listings” and “free listings?”
The major search engines will list two different type of results. The first results you see are usually the sponsored listings, people who have paid for the top spots for those keywords. Usually the top 3 or 4 are shown. After that, the free listings are shown. These websites have been listed here by virtue of their relevancy determined by the search engines.

I’ve submitted my site to the search engines, why am I not getting traffic?
Submission is only the first step in getting the search engines to recognise you. It allows them to index your site and rank you according to their formula. Depending on how relevant they find you, you’ll still get indexed but not ranked very high.

How important are meta tags for keywords, title and description?
Some years ago meta tags were critical for proper placement in search engines, without them your site would not be listed for the keywords and search terms you preferred. However today, Google and many of the major search engines no longer look at the keyword meta tag. This does not mean it should not be included and for that matter properly optimised, as some engines still use this tag. The title and description meta tags are still widely used and will affect your eventual rank in the search engines along with the multitude of other factors.

Why do optimisation over pay per click?
After optimisation and getting ranked high in the search engines, you could get just as much traffic or more than pay per click and not have to pay per visitor to your site. Also, many people consider you an expert in your industry if they find you ranked high in the search engines.

What can search engine marketing do for you?

Would you like more targeted traffic to your website? Or even some traffic!? Fed up with being on page 10 of Google, if at all?

Then we can help. With over a dozen years of experience in web development and search engine marketing shows us what it takes to make a successful website. With a limited budget you can target the right traffic for your site in a number of ways including:

‘Organic’ search engine rankings for relevant search terms through effective search engine optimisation.
Reciprocal linking with websites that offer complimentary products and services (eg a hotel and a spa).
Pay-per-click promotions in a specific area.

We can help you with all these and once you have some visitors, you need to be ready to convert them to customers.

So, yes, traffic is all well and good, but how about retention and conversion?
To take advantage of increased traffic we’d recommend a review of the current site so that it is geared towards the desired action you require which might include:

The purchase of your goods online.
A quotation request.
Subscribing to a newsletter.

Having visitors is an essential first step, but visits must lead to acceptable conversion rates if your business is to succeed in the online world. We can help with visitor retention (both in terms of duration of time on site and repeat visits) and with increasing conversion rates.
